I'm curious, what would happen if I ran a shaved U-brace without switching to the aluminum C-hubs?

What is the dimensions of the 7933 crush tube? I'm assuming the only difference is the length? Maybe I can get a bit of aluminum tube and cut my own. I'll be checking out some local stores to see what they have in their old inventory.
