I know it's done, but I used to always taper the bottom of the chassis opening with a dremel to give the larger diameter starter box wheel some extra clearance. Then you weren't necessarily enlarging the hole in your chassis -- just putting a chamfer on it. But the bigger flywheel was a smart move.
