This post here may help with the leak. The 420 diff is lighter but assembly is key for a leak free diff whether it be 419 or 420. By the cross pins you mean the aluminum pins/shafts that hold the four small bevel gears? It is quite rare to have them bent, a picture could help determine the cause.
