Question/advice
Hey Ron,
So i have one of your B5 engines, not the newer Pro II version. The engine is sitting around the 4-5 gallon mark, and still has a lot of compression. However, about a year ago, I was a dummy and didn’t have the piston at TDC when I was taking off the back plate, and took a chunk out of the skirt of the piston. What I would like to know, is if I get a new piston for it to repair the engine, would I also absolutely have to get a sleeve as well, or can you get away with just replacing the piston. I understand that each piston and sleeve builds it’s own wear characteristics and then they essentially “match”. I ask this, because for the wallets sake, it would obviously be cheaper to just change the piston. But if that would cause issues with not changing the sleeve with the new piston, and I should just get both, then I might as well just look at getting an entirely new engine, as the price difference isn’t that much. What are your thoughts or advice on this? Thanks Ron.
