Werty Yui- He needs the ESC because from what I read he is an electric user and has no battery or battery adapter that can plug directly in to the RX. He did mention that he has tried multiple esc's(2 Traxxas Velineon systems, 2 different LRP/Reedy combos, brand new HobbyWing Max 8 and a brand new HobbyWing Max 10 SRT combo). The SR3100 only needs a minimum of 3.3 volts to properly operate and most esc's generally supply at least 5 volts, highly unlikely that all of those esc's are bad. If they are that's a much worse day than RX binding issues.
