At one track I run at that uses the older grey ozite, most of the classes spec a non-carpet pin tire so its common to see clay tires, in particular slicks sauced with sxt 3.0 compound. In general most folks run the tires for quite some time, especially if they use a clay compound (some use super soft which use less sauce but then wear faster). Those who run treaded clay tires work on them a bit more to get them on point due to how they grip roll you a bit easier. slicks at least seem more consistent.
I have taken to using the schumacher honeycomb tires. In general these tires I don't need to sauce very often, and they wear quite well and hook up well. As I mainly get up there for series races and maybe a practice day a month or so, the tires I have been using have lasted probably a couple of years now and are still going strong, tread on the front just starting to show a lot of wear.
Part of it can be for sure I also running my vehicle in a 13.5 configuration but have used it in mod with a 6.5T motor (class is full mod but track size 13.5s are common). But overall I feel the tires last well and work well too.

Big thing is to watch for any tire voodoo folks want to do. As soon as someone finds and spreads getting X amount of seconds back with doing something wild with there tires, the gloves seem to always come off.
Personally, I have wondered on turf if those proline hooser tires could be a good spec tire. The traction wouldn't be insane like pins for sure, bit of drift, but if anything from what we seen right now indoors with similar kind of tires, you get a lot of runs with them. Bit of drift also can give a bit more "offroad" feel. The tires also have molded into the tire sidewall the compound too. If folks were willing to accept those traction trade offs, could be a nice option. Heck that schumacher tire that looks like an HPI Xpattern tire could be an option too and offer longer wear.
One other thing, since guys do a variety of sauce voodoo to really soften things up, have wondered if a tire compound could ever be made that if you did any of that (outside of some accepted sauce relative to the rubber), the tire would change color showing it was "tampered with" and be illegal.
Ultimately though it all depends on what folks are willing to accept for traction levels.
