I race with SPS3172 and also currently have the SRG in my XRay 2018 12th scale. My steering rods are pretty flat and straight and the servo sits very low in the car, barely floating. I also am able to use all 4 screws in mine. I will have to take a pic later to show how I shimmed it.

check your front end. the left and right aren't even close to parallel. looks like you've had a few board meetings...
