I found this tidbit of info/claim of the benefit of magnesium from Team Brood:

"Most know that magnesium is lighter than a comparable aluminum part (35%), but magnesium also offers superior dent resistance for improved precision over time, and is able to be machined to incredibly strict tolerances for more accurate suspension settings. MOST importantly magnesium has the highest known damping capacity of any structural metal available! Magnesium will absorb 16 times more shock and vibration than aluminum, and 10 times that of any other metal."
