I've gone through a few of those plastic Spurs. As a matter of fact, there are 8 Tanktecs in my group of friends. ALL of us have ditched the plastic spur gear for the reason you are replacing them. Once you do get the steel gears... You must avoid alloy pinions, and stick with the hardened steel ones. If not, that steel spur will turn them into a roller bearing.
