Well, today certainly has been interesting. I got a reply to my email (sent through their website rather than directly to their email) and have been talking to Karl from FlySky today.

Regarding sport mode and exciting news about 8 channel support:
NB4 didn't have do sport mode, because in the development we found that the normal mode of performance the same as the sport mode, so there is no separate do sport mode, subsequent NB4 upgrade multiple channels (8 channels) is plans should sport mode will be added (sport model will added after 8 channel firmware out optimization), one way‘s minimum delay is the same as two way, cycle time delay one-way will be lower.
Regarding sensors:
Thank you for using flysky product,NB4 with FGr4S. Can use sensors over ibus/sbus. Can be matched with the following sensors, you should connected the in port of the sensor to the ibus port of FGr4s, Match the transmitter and receiver ,and then the remote control interface can select sensors which on " Receiver Set/Output mode/sensors ",
I also suggested that support for displaying more than four sensor outputs at once could be added in an update as well as suggesting the ability to bind a button and use it to switch between sensor displays. I got this response:
The current architecture is not convenient for four sensor displays,Using buttons to switch displays is a good suggestion,I'll pass it to the development department. Thanks for your advice.
To summarize, even though the FGr4s (the small RX) does not have a dedicated sensor port it can still support their old IT4/IT6 sensors over ibus/sbus. Also, sport mode was dropped as they found during development that it was unnecessary - latency was already good enough. An excited thing learned is 8 channel support will be coming in a future firmware update!!! Finally, they may add support for viewing data for more than four sensors at a time thanks to my suggestion.
