Simple green does a great job dissolving oils and residue, but wont hurt the plastic or o-rings. I do sometimes use a small amount of compressed air to clean out the clunk when installing new fuel line. Just send the air down from the fuel line to blow out the grime reverse of its normal flow, the clunk can hold dirt easily. The main thing is let the tank dry well.
