One thing to keep in mind is that cast molds and such arereused from previous lineups, as such cost keep decreasing! When the manufacturers change the design or process, the first runs need to recoup tooling costs i.e. Piccos new blocks! And then when you look at Maxima taking an OS motor and then "tuning" (i wont say they tune, but thats my opinion) it and upselling it at a rediculous price - when they did not manufacture anything! Then its quite absurd....
As Picco have changed their way of casting it will be more expensive now to do changes, the previous engines could be adapted more easily. But maybe it's cheaper in the long run.
But apart from the manufacturing they also need to invest, and pay for marketing etc. By spending say the same amount of money on marketing as they did to make the product they might be able to double the profit, at our expense.
