I am also a dinosaur but I think the spool is pretty awesome on black carpet. Positive out way the negatives. It is faster. How you feed power in the corner makes a pretty big difference. Little tricky on corner with quick weight transfer if you clamp it with wheel turned a few degrees. Just need to get wheels straight before you go full gas. Also found you need to run a little less negative camber. Spool and black carpet combo seem to make the car very camber sensitive. Difference between doing somersault and quick laps can be .5 degree.
I have yet to try it with full out modified but with Can-am 10.5 it pretty easy to drive once you get the hang of it.
one more thing is you have to run thinner oil in the tubes.
If you run like 15K it will hook suddenly.
