Default Help upgrading a XXX-S to new electronics/brushless

New to the forums. First post!

I have an old XXX-S that has been sitting since the early 2000s. I used to race a XXX-T back in the day, but have been out of the loop for almost 2 decades. So I don't know what is what when it comes to good/bad brands or technology that is a must-have.

I dusted off my old XXX-S and have found some parts that it needs on ebay. The next step is to upgrade the electronics. It has an old JR XR2 AM transmitter and a brushed ESC. I have 2 JR servos that might work, but not sure about compatibility of the servos if I went with a new receiver. What's an inexpensive way to get this thing up-to-date for brushless? I've been looking at the Spektrum STX2 or the FlySky GT3C transmitters, decent for a budget build? Probably would want to run stock motor class if I decide to take it to a local track and see if I can compete with it and stick with the hobby, was thinking a Reedy Blackbox 600z and a 17.5T combo.

I also need to read up on Lipo batters, I have zero experience with them.

Thanks everyone!
