People are adjusting the timing on the motor itself, your just stock motor has fixed timing. There is actually quite a bit of power you are giving up by not advancing your timing.
But be careful doing this. Too much timing and you will burn your motor up. Your best bet is to get a motor analyzer for about 100 bucks, then tune the timing using it. I usually run all my motors to pull around 6-6.5amps. I always adjust by amps rather than timing numbers since all motors vary
