It might not make much sense for on-road, but a little slip is very helpful for off-road so you don't break traction unintentionally or overheat your clutch and weld the shoe material to the clutch bell.
I can imangine some oil on the shoe can help to break in the shoe w/o much wear. You want to burn the surface in a controlable way to give a more strong surface.
Regarding slip, yes, it will give a better grip on the car but more important it will keep the engine in higher revs so with a better torque for a faster acceleration after the corner..
