Well - no, the direction of the side links must be considered too. To illustrate this, think of tilting the sidelinks up by 90°. Then it is only possible to do a "roll motion" also along the 90° tilted direction. (It would still be a kind of trailing arm, allowing a suspension movement)

P.S.: Achim Schulz is a chassis designer at Porsche Motorsport and RC Car enthusiast. He designed the Hatzenbach Cars with some regional success due to not beeing commercially available. The rear axis concept is quite interesting:
