I have recently converted what was a brushed 1/10 truggy to a full brushless system. The motor is a brushless leopard racing 1050kv 540 size motor, the esc is basic but can take a 3s lipo. After running the truggy it is actually slower on this setup with a 3s than it originally was brushed with a NIMH battery. I have not changed the gearing at all and the top speed is slightly slower than before.

I have reprogrammed the esc to correct settings and have tried different esc's, but there have been no improvements.

Would the low kv motor be restricting the top speed of this model?
