for sure the 3.1 can handle that motor. i used to run a V3 in my SCT410 with a 4000kv hobbywing 4 pole and depending on the track, i'd dial in some boost/turbo. if you already have it (the SMC 4 pole), i'd give it a go before dropping more coin on a new motor. while i think the pro-2 tekin is probably the ideal motor, like matthew said, you should be able to tame the SMC with esc/radio settings.

the other issue with the 4 pole motors is finding 5mm 48p pinions. it's been a while, but i don't think they're all that common (could be wrong). the tekin pro2 is 1/8" shaft, but that SMC and most other SCT 4 pole motors are 5mm shafts.
