Where are you getting that observation? I've raced both the Roche and X1 on asphalt and they are pretty close. (edge in quality to the X1 and edge for the Roche in bang for buck)


The 18 you have the option of running a longer shock shaft so might be better when its bumpy. If you run a really low ride right, the '18 chassis or the Roche will help with minimizing any scrub. Otherwise, all the model years X1 handle pretty similarly (when running without swaybar).
