Who actually in their right mind actually takes the bearing itself apart then reassembles it and sticks it back in the crankcase?? If it is goosed you just fit a new one from the packet and that's that.

I really don't see how you are adding to the conversation (mentioning taking the bearing completely apart) by the OP of this particular topic of his engine locking up when he mounts the backplate. It is clear he has just fitted a new bearing and I doubt he took it (the bearing itself) apart first prior to fitting it into the engine

My guess is that he simply hasn't pressed the bearing all the way home.
