I would never put a brushless motor in a can of water.. if you need to break it in then your not doing something correct this is brushless no need to break in.. might use a micro lube on bearing only.

Some 13.5/17.5 motors do emit a bit of a burning smell on their first run (Reedy and Schurrspeed ones I know for sure do it) even while they're still at a safe temp but it goes away and as mentioned above, there's no need to break in a bl motor in any way.
