If they did not like "short Course" trucks, I would recommend a stadium truck (Losi 22T or even the RTR AE T4.3, or the T5M) they are more forgiving than the buggies but drive much easier than a shortcourse.
The Traxxas stadium truck does not have the durability of the slash at the track from what I have seen (it includes bushings, not bearings, nun adjustable tie rods, and a few other parts seem "skimmped" on)
