I've tried something like this on my X10'16: I swapped the pod bulkheads with those from my X12'16, and put longer screws and more spacers...
It sort of worked, but the eccentric clamp move a little bit around the screws, which means that the axle bearings aren't held perfectly aligned, which left the axle binding a bit. I got most of the binding out by loosening the screws a bit, spinning the axle, tighten gently, spin a bit more, tighten some more, etc.
The Roche has the right idea, in my opinion: similar eccentric clamps, but their P12, P10/P10W, and F1 have different pod bulkheads, avoiding the need for a pile of spacers.
