Could you define what you mean by "the right gearing" ?

I'm aiming to have a wide range of RPM to have at my disposal but without going to extreme in the top end. For example, a friend has a 2250kV motor on 6S and its SUPER touchy at first throttle/low throttle but hammers in the top end (naturally).

I would have preferred to get a Tekin so the motor works well with the ESC but if they aren't actually compatible with 6S then it rules out even trying them where as the HobbyWing at least is capable of 6S and its only gearing i'd have to really worry about.

I've looked on the website and its not clear if even teh 1700kV T8 GEN2 is ok ot run on 6S. If i go to low then i wont have much top speed (but i'm coming in totally blind to what is acceptable as this is my first -E 1/8th and i'm trying to not waste money with trial and error).
