It shouldn't kill the battery as long as the battery isn't defective to begin with. It should draw relatively equal voltage from each cell over the course of the run. They may be a little out of balance after a run, but that's why you need a balance charger to bring the cells back to a happy place.

EDIT: though you'll probably want to attach a low voltage alarm since I am sure that ESC won't have a LIPO cutoff setting.
