When I mentioned steering plate, I meant a little more forward, up on the ridged portion, but what you showed in your picture would be fine too. I don't run the HW ESCs myself, just see a lot of them.
As for the ackerman bar, it is a little wider, and a little swept backwards as compared to the old one. This gives a smoother ackerman angle through the turn as the bar rocks from side to side to allow for both smoother cornering and less scrubbing, resulting in more corner speed and an easier drive at the same time.
