I'd suggest just practicing with earphones in and music playing until you can drive without needing to listen to the car. Even if the microphone works well for you, you're then stuck using additional equipment that may not even be legal for racing.
IIRC ROAR doesn't allow headphones or anything like that because it could be used for communicating with the driver. IFMAR allows it.
