I was wanting to get a 2200kv motor with 14T pinion but that might be too much power.

I was thinking about this setup:

--->1178-11 proline badland tires
--->1900kv smc-motor
--->14T pinion
--->Hobbywing EZrun Max 8 v3 ESC

What does everyone think?
Does a smaller pinion make less torque and keep the front end down better?
Would a larger pinion be better?
Are the tires too small?

.
I am happy with the smaller badlands I went with them for a few reasons. Looks: the bigger ones look really stubby on the short chassis to me. Handling and less weight to possibly break things but these trucks are tough so wouldn't worry too much about that.

Your esc/motor choice seem fine. Are you just wanting to run that one because its water proof?. I posted my results above about my experience with the bigger motor. My testing is on a track if I didn't have that the 2200kv would be fine for general messing around, with a smaller pinion and lighter diff fluid. You can always tame wheelies down that way.

On a side not I did manage to snap a front shock cap. The rest of the shock was fine not sure how I managed that one haha. Might have been the full speed cartwheels after a 40ft jump. I put on aluminum caps now.
