For a 1/10th scale hobby grade monster truck 170 is pretty cheap. Now if you're ok going smaller than 1/10th scale and still want hobby grade you can get something like the helion Animus for 100 bucks and get a 4wd truck. Or even cheaper and get the Contakt for 60-70 bucks. That's about as cheap as hobby grade rc cars go. Anything below that and you are in toy grade. If you have a hobby town usa near by the helion stuff can be found in store but it does break parts more than other companies.
Just an FYI hobby grade RC cars do break. Some definitely more than others but they do break. So be ready to buy parts in the future and some light wrenching. If you don't want to buy parts or fix cars get a toy grade car. They can still break but since they only go 2-10mph there is less chance of hitting something hard and fast.
