Well, yes, being readily available is a big benefit, we don't manufacture our king pins at the moment as our volume is very low. As a benefit though, it allows you to play with knuckle positioning quite a bit to move the roll center around. In lower bite and on asphalt when looking for steering we often run a lot of spacing under the knuckle and above it. This gives us a higher RC and lots of camber gain. With a shorter king pin we would not be able to achieve this.
