I've used the IRS ball type balance pins before and did not like them at all. I found that the bottom had a bit of a flat spot that did not allow the car to lean left/right as I wanted. Also the pin was too small and moved around in the balance holes in the chassis which seemed super inconsistent to me. The Hudy style fills the hole completely since it is tapered, and is more consistent IMO.
Personal preference I guess.
