You HAVE to glue the front sidewalls on black CRC carpet, I likely would at least try it for grey carpet as well. I even glued the rear sidewalls for black carpet and switched to soft springs to let the car chassis roll, instead of traction rolling onto it's lid every lap.
I just put a drop on a carboard parts tag and drag it on the sidewall while the tire's spinning. Not sure if there's a better technique.
