Ok does it make a difference that I didn't change the motor or the sensor wire and the old RS worked fine?
It can yes. Both ESC's have the sensor tester function so simply swapping them out to assure it's indeed the Gen2 RS would be ideal.
We get in a lot of service sent to us that in the end isn't the ESC at all. I'm just trying to help prevent that from occurring here.
