Most of the steering issue I and other have had are on carpet/astro where there is a dominantly proportioned amount of traction to the rear of the car, rather than the front. The rear has so much grip that it actually pushes the front. I can get the car to turn great if I mash the breaks and get the rear loose, but thats not fast nor equally repeatable. So yes, the car does have a lack of steering, just not on your surface.
