Questions?? Need help finding brushless motor for custom rc boat

Hey all,

I'm new here on this forum and pretty new to building an rc vehicle myself. I am here to find out which motor I should buy. You can reply to this thread or e-mail me directly: [email protected].

Some time ago I decided to take a shot and make an rc boat myself, using a hull from a pre-built and pre-installed ready to run boat I took apart. It's been really difficult trying to find a good brushless motor for my boat, but when I'd finally found one, it burnt down in a test run.

So, having spent a lot of money on useless parts, I don't want to waste too much money again. Since a lot of you guys must have some (at least more than me, haha) experience in the rc world, I thought maybe you could help me out finding a good brushless r/c motor, or at least give me your opinions.

The specs of my boat are:

Length: 590 mm (23.2 inch)
Wheight (when ready to run): ~1.5 kg (3.3 lbs)
Hull type: (Mono) V-hull
Battery: 3S 5000mah lipo
ESC: 100A watercooled brushless
Desired minimum speed: ~65 km/h (40.4 mp/h)
Prop size: the one I have is a 28 mm 3-blade, but if I need another one to run max speed, I'm willing to buy one (or more).

I'm especially curious to find out what exactly to look for when buying a motor (Turns, kV-ratings, etc).

Thanks in advance

PS: The motor that burnt down was a 3900 kV HobbyKing of which the T (the Turns, which should give me an idea of how much torque the motor has - if I'm correct) wasn't mentioned. I didn't install anything wrong, so it must have been an internal problem.
