On top of what Andy has said, the receiver usually has some sort of polarity symbols on the case near the connectors ("-+sig" or similar). "+" is always in the middle, so even if you plug in backwards, you are not going to "fry" anything (it just wont work). Same for servo, but usually only wire colour gives indication (black or brown for ground).
