You might see a crack in the arm where it attaches to the main post structure. These are plastic parts so you'll want to put them under stress to test to see if it is cracked.
Actually, you might take off the front upper cover plate and do a few checks before you disassenble. With the cover off, hold the wheels and have someone turn the steering left to right and see where all of the "slop" is.
