We were 1 running specs at MHIC. We ran the front tires small (39.5-39.7) on a CRC rim. I could have gotten 2 runs on a set but they felt better brand new, I know John Wiita was doing the same and I believe Mitch was as well.
It's been fairly rare that I haven't found new fresh cut tires to be at least a bit faster and easier to drive at big races.
As to how long tires last, it really depends on how small you cut the fronts to as they wear the most. I know that even club racing I can't get more then maybe 3-4 runs on a set of fronts if they are cut somewhere around 40mm to start.
Nice, I start mine at the same size (39.75 rears and 39.60 fronts) and replace the fronts at 39.0. But I am getting about 5-7 runs on them, with the 3rd or 4th run being the best, at least with the Ultis.
