I decided to take the head and button off to check things out and it looked like I was getting blow by between the shims (.6mm stack). I replaced with .8mm stack because I run 30% werks race blend.
Could this have been the culprit? Is it normal to see blow by between the shims?
I haven't run the car since replacing the shims as I'm waiting for other parts.

I'd clean the shims and head button off real good and try running it with the .8mm shim stack and see if it runs well. I always take the sleeve out too and hit the sealing surface with some 400-600grit sandpaper to make sure it's nice and flat... on table or flat surface of course, basically same thing you'd do with a diff to make sure your paper gasket has a nice flat surface to work with.
