(I'll bet that even Dale will say it doesn't look too much like a McLaren-- he's required to say that to avoid legal problems.)
I never said I had any problems with the idea of a sort-of-scale body, or with the PFM-10 being on the list. Even my McAllister Corvette DP body is only sort-of-scale, so it can fit on a 4WD TC chassis.
Since the PFM-10 is one of the few bodies on the list that doesn't look boring, and is made from 0.030" Lexan, I think it's a good candidate for my next body.
Howard, I agree with what you have to say. To add to it, why would a body, that isn't even named after a real car, be allowed to stay on the list? Isn't this deemed the "most realistic class"?
As far as the DP's, like them or not (this is not directed at you), this car represents the premier class in IMSA road racing. They are the fastest, and the most exciting. Not only that, if one was to look at the official race flyer for the 2016 Grand Prix of Monterey, which officially kicks off today, you would see the DP is what represents the event. As to the question of scale comparison, it's not exact, but it's very, very close.
In my opinion, and in my opinion only, one body manufacturer, just had 4 bodies eliminated from the list. I find that extremely concerning. Though some racers may believe this is "much to do about nothing", how would they feel knowing they just took a hit to their bottom line? Has anyone really taken that into consideration, especially when a certain manufacturer has worked and listened to the masses to provide us with multiple new choices for the USVTA class? To me, this is really wrong. Some racers posting here don't think much past their own "honest opinion". It's not just about looking at things from your own personal perspective. These new rules have a father reaching impact for some.
For those of you who want to believe the body issue can be settled at the local level to allow illegal bodies, how does that happen when you're abiding by the nationally recognized rule set and trying to run for national points? It doesn't work! Is that clear enough?
As I have posted before, the DP's race alongside the GTLM and GTD classes at all the IMSA events, so I'm not sure why those bodies have been deemed illegal. So, without a valid explanation, one can only assume it's because they are not aesthetically pleasing to what some must want this class to look like from an appearance standpoint.
