Running rich keeps the enging at lower temps and at lower temps the piston gets more pinch which will give wear on the piston to fit itself to that size of sleeve. Running with that same rich setting is no issue but running at full performance will give the effect of a worn engine.
That is also explaining the bad idea to break in an engine in the winter and use it in the summer.
well your bringing in another factor here ... Engine being too cold !
So I do wide open breakins where I have the head wrapped with a competition heater... I have the mixture so rich fuel is often pumping out the front bearing, but because I have the heater on and active the engine stays hot even with a crazy rich tune... I have done this for hundreds of engine and never had any issues with front bearings blowing their seals, which is more or less what we are debating.. Some of these guys seem to think the extra oil and fuel somehow will cause mechanical damage to the bearing itself.
