I personally was guilty of using my TB03 knowledge when first building my EVO6 gearboxes.. Altho it 'worked' today i realize that the two platforms have different 'issues' which require different shimming strategies.
TB03 i had to shim the GearCase Covers.
EVO6 only requires me to shim the BevelGear onto the output shaft. (apply shim(s) to shaft before securing e-clip to ensure no wobble of bevel on shaft when e-clip is installed... this also helps proper gear mesh). Can fully seat GearCase Cover to GearCase base without any shims between the two and it is very smooth and. That in itself tells me the GearCase is fine.
...now when i install the Rear GearCase to the chassis, there is still some alignment issues between it and the MotorMount Transfer Shaft, which is remedied with some clever shimming between the Chassis and the afore mentioned GearCase and MotorMount assemblies.
