I'd really like to know more about you owning a Mellotron 400, did you use it for gigs or just for yourself? I'm really keen on retro keyboards and synthesisers, I just love 'em!
My keyboard skills were crude, so the Mellotron was just for personal entertainment. (I found out quickly that I was better at creating instruments than playing them!) Since we were poor way back in college, I pooled resources with a buddy to buy it. He was an audio tech, so working on the thing was his cup of tea (fortunately, since it always needed work). Fun story: At the time, he worked for the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, and did sound for a production of The Tempest. They needed "angel voices", so he went to a cathedral and recorded a boys' choir singing single notes, then cut the tape and put it into the Mellotron. That took a bit of time!
