I dont think that the timing would work from the esc if you just reverse the direction. Like the motor timing it is directional, and some features are based on rpm. If you reverse the singal from the radio (like i think you would be doing) I dont know if the esc would regsiter that and retard the timing for the reverse direction. Some may, but im not sure how you would check if they do. I have never run my buggies backwards fast enought to really tell if there was any timing from the esc.
im not running in reverse...and im not reversing the direction from my radio, im trying to figure out if its safe to run a brushless motor with timing in its reversed direction, with the timing set to zero.... than if i could add timing to it from the esc

the rotation of my gearbox is reversed so in order to go forward, the motor needed to be in "reverse" rotation....
