How long ago did you convert? I looked into this a lot actually, and yes, the MKS 9660 metal gears are a direct fit. However, I couldn't find ANYWHERE that has them in stock in the US. This leads me to this....

In short, no. The 9660 and the 9660a+ gearset are different, and I can't find the former anywhere in the US.

Like I mentioned in a previous post, if you have a floating servo mount or tape it down I (personally!) think the Savox 1250MG is the way to go. It's even a bit cheaper than the Futaba S9650!
