I would double check the bearing in the motor mount, good chance it's not in there straight or in too deep in the mount. I ran into this while assembling my conversion. I pulled the mount out of the car wiggled it around in the mount till I felt it was positioned better and sure enough it freed up
Thanks. However as mentioned I've sanded the bearing hole large enough without having excessive play but they still bind when assembled.
Instead of shimming the bottom of the gearbox that would affect the top deck, I decided to shim one side of the bottom of the motor mount instead to bring the angle of the shaft back slightly.
