This is more or less what I was thinking too.

Also, I feel like some of the existing dynos were built by people with more practical experience than theoretical experience, which ends up "mostly right", but not quite? Slave motors? Slave motors [I]and[I/] flywheel (some of the McPappy setups)?

Now I'm getting a nice whiff of engineering degrees, and hear mentions of Matlab, which I'll take as good signs.
