Also, the Top Elite 5 is a good truggy engine and a steal for around $160 as it is basically a Nova p5 with more timing and a cnc piston. You can even get a tuned one from Neal at TNS for just over 220 or so. There's a couple guys on here that run them in truggy and I've yet to hear anything bad about them.
You could stick with the Alphas too. Never owned one but there's a few guys I race with that are fans of the Argus and Alpha .21s. The one thing I always hear is that they run the best around 270° or even hotter sometimes. They are very tight pinch engines so maybe the tuning issues you're hearing of are related to break in issues. Rex at RW mods sells the Argus versions and will lap the sleeves which really helps the break in process go quicker.
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but just passing along few things I've learned along the way and some of the advice I was also given when I was just getting into nitro. Hope this helps

Cheers man. Unfortunately the prices youre stating are alot cheaper then im going to get them for haha. Im Australian and our dollar has taken a hiding lately because of the Chinese devaluing theirs... hurts if i want anything from the states big time.
Ahh makes sense, the guys at my track run either OS or Novas, so i was going to stick with a Nova just for the help i can get with tuning etc. Also as my lhs can get in either Alphas, OS or Novas.
Im wanting a good truggy engine, ill pick up on it pretty quickly so im quite happy to spend the money up front so im not spending anothet $500+ further down the track on a better engine. Which is why i picked up the alpha cr as a steal just to get my feet wet.
