One more thing..this motor I'm running now is the second Orion MTE and I had. Both motors seem to run on the cold side like 180-190..sometimes even colder, like 150..when I was breaking in the motor, I had to keep a heat gun the motor the whole time...if I lean to 210 or 220 I'm way too lean, at least it sounds too lean on the track. I don't seem to get a lot of smoke either on the track. So, I can't tune by temp or smoke..all I have to tune with is sound.
I read somewhere where a guy tuned his and added a 10mm head shim..seems to me that would make it run even a colder...I'm thinking about removing at least one of the copper shims. There's a 20mm and a 15mm...so I'll probably start with the 15mm.
Any help would be so greatfully appreciated!
Hey Tom I race with you down at Awesome from time to time.. I also have one of these old MTE engines. It barely has compression but it runs like a bat outta hell! I raced it this past weekend at tiltyard and finally decided to tear it down to rebuild. Being that parts support is zero I'm going to send the piston and sleeve out to Ray A Racing to have him pinch it. Hopefully I can get a few more gallons of life out of it. Everything else in it is tight so we'll see. I have have found that my MTE 5 port runs really well at around 230. This is a fat tune for it, but if I get the temps over 230 it tends to flame out. Are you still racing any nitro? Or are you all electric now?
